Although it seems obvious, make sure you keep your kitchen clean. This does not mean you have to get up at dawn every morning with your calendars and Brillo pads, but it means cleaning the surfaces, keeping the cooking surface clean, emptying the containers before they overflow and do not leave the washing up until there is no clean cup or plate left.

To make it right, you should really try to organize a rota cleaning (and this applies to the whole house, not just for the kitchen).

Kitchen hygiene translates into a total cleaning of dishes, cooking utensils and kitchen appliances and their correct positioning.

Hairy Friends

Rodents are the ruin of many homes and it’s kitchen. They will often be a hereditary problem and therefore will not necessarily reflect on your cleanliness, but once they are comfortable and have invited all their friends and relatives to stay, they are very difficult to eliminate.

If you have mice, you have to keep all the food covered, make sure all surfaces are free of food and take out the bins everyday. If you do not have them, do not encourage them by doing nothing of the above.

You can buy rat traps, but if there is a real infestation, you will have to call the professionals.

However, it is not always obvious when you have mice, so you need to pay attention to the signs: mysterious holes in cereal boxes and small black droppings, which are about the same size and shape as rice grains.

Tips To Avoid Food Poisoning

Here are some tips to help you avoid food poisoning;

  • Always wash your hands before starting to prepare a meal and again after handling any raw meat.
  • Store leftovers, cooked foods in the refrigerator and eat them within two days. When heating it, make sure it is thoroughly warm.
  • Periodically empty and clean the refrigerator – throw away the jars of semi-used sauces if you are not sure of their opening.
  • Do not heat things that have been frozen
  • Wash the dishcloths regularly as they are a breeding ground for bad bacteria.

These are just some of the basic rules for enjoying a wellness period in your student kitchen.

Much of this is reduced to common sense, so if you’re not sure of a food you should just throw it away.
